Mika Fukuyoshi, LMSW, CASAC
Mika was born and raised in Japan, and NYC has been her home for half of her life since she took a big leap of faith to explore her potential outside of Japan. Prior to settling in the US, Mika established a career in finance in Tokyo, but then she followed her creative instinct and earned a bachelor’s degree in Interior Design at Fashion Institute of Technology. While interior design was a fulfilling career, Mika’s life took a sharp turn, and she ultimately followed her heart into social work.
Mika earned a Master of Social Work degree at New York University Silver School of Social Work. She is also a Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC), and trained in Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction. Mika is currently working towards a 2-year Integrated Trauma Training at The Institute for Contemporary Psychotherapy which includes EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) training.
Mika’s clinical focuses include trauma, substance misuse, and bereavement. Mika holds the value that each client is unique, and so is their path to healing. For this reason, she listens to each one of them with deep compassion without limiting her approach to one modality over the other, but instead, she integrates different modalities and theories such as CBT, Motivational Interviewing, Mindfulness, DBT, Internal Family System, Psychodynamics and somatic approach to meet each client’s needs. She is passionate about helping clients discover their innate power and resilience to heal and gain control of their lives.
When Mika is not wearing a therapist’s hat, she enjoys gardening, cooking, walking in the park, and watching kittens and puppies on YouTube. She practices yoga and Mindfulness regularly to be present with her mind, body and soul. Mika speaks Japanese and is fluent in English.
