Ali Ellis, LCAT-LP
Ali was born in New York and grew up in Florida and New Mexico. Ali returned to New York to complete their Bachelors in Visual Arts at SUNY Purchase and Masters in Professional Studies in Creative Arts Therapy.
Ali has worked in a variety of therapeutic, community, and educational settings, including private practice and non-profit organizations. Previously, they provided art therapy services in settings with toddlers, children, developmentally delayed adults, and young adults coping with anxiety and depression
Ali believes in a holistic approach to art therapy while utilizing Gestalt and methods used in CBT and DBT. They embrace therapy and art-making from whichever direction and however, it can best serve a client, even if that means that art is optional.
Ali is interested in supporting those who are LGBTQIA+ in exploring their gender and sexuality. They have done research working with trans and gender-nonconforming youth to explore how portraiture can help explore themes of integration and sense of self.
Ali is Jewish and part of the LGBTQIA+ community. They love to cook, listen to music, watch films and TV, and spend time in nature. They also love to explore the city and maintain an art practice in their home studio. Ali’s self-care includes art-making, cleaning, and strumming the ukulele. Ali has volunteered helping the elderly and refugee children.
Ali enjoys living and working in New York because they are able to work with all kinds of people from different lifestyles and backgrounds. Ali loves going to the park and seeing the city come alive in different ways.
